This is one of my favourites by far. I’ll let the me of the past do the talking for this one:
I’ve wanted to try and do something in the Street Fighter IV style for a while now. I previously tried a “poster” that failed miserably due to being unable to pick the images apart well enough for it to work.
This, however, was a lot more manageable. Done in about 4 hours using a stock photo by ~stockmedia and official high-res art from Capcom.
The main effort came in trying to make the background look as if it fitted with SFIV’s style. At first I wondered if I could try and make it actually look like a game location – but the game has so much style and filters applied to it, it’s pretty hard to mimic the look with an actual photo. Instead, I focused on making it look ‘drawn’ and inked – in the same sort of idea as the characters.
After that, I focused on making the characters fit into this drawn ‘stage’ and emphasised the ink splatter effect that’s a signature of the game’s style with even more.
Finally, I included Ryu and Sagat’s portraits at the top corners in sort of a reference to the character selection screens of the games.
This is the 1440×900 version, which you can grab by clicking the image above.
